This program will be based off the book 12 Steps to Build Your Own Personal Ark, by Emily Freeman. You can buy it if you want from the link, or I will pass on the information. It's only 5.95.
The book helps you get basic food storage ready and gathered in 12 steps, which we will do in 12 months. We will meet once a month as a group, have a lesson on the topic provided for that month, and individually buy the things needed throughout the month. Based on cannery prices, the cost would be about $65 for food storage each month (for 2 adults). It may be cheaper buying flour in bulk instead of in cans, etc... but that is a rough estimate. If as a family that amount is too much, you can buy what you can and just extend out the purchasing a little longer.
Why are we doing this? Jon and I have been talking about food storage since we got married, but always put it off. Now we have the room and handy books at our disposal to help us - it's about time we did it! But I also know myself...if we do it ourselves, it'll get pushed farther and farther back; but doing it with friends is a great way to add extra accountability for us to get it done, and a great way to have support to help us finish!
At the first meeting we will talk about some basics about the book, the cannery, storing food, etc. I will provide folders to keep recipes and any handouts in, and also a laminated food storage chart to help you keep track of what food storage you have and what you need to buy to replenish what you use.
The FHE meetings will consist of the following:
- Song
- Prayer
- Lesson for the kids
- Lesson for the adults
- Closing Prayer
- Taste test a recipe from food storage
